Why is your company still spending millions on software development?

One year ago, I asked

Are we on the brink of a software development revolution powered by AI?

*****

Today, I’m not asking anymore.

We’ve already crossed that brink.

One year ago, I asked

I predicted that LLMs and AI agents would soon automate the majority of coding work. AI will radically reshape how software is built.

What I Experienced This Year

AI Agents are really reshaping how software is built and they do not only have the potential to write the whole code, they already can. The real barrier is not anymore technical, but cultural, structural, and organizational.

Back In 2008, I spent hundreds of hours building the first version of my open source project koalixcrm. This year, I rebuilt a comparable app in just 40 hours using JetBrains’ AI agent Junie.

In my opinion it is turning point. The AI agent didn’t just help, it took over the planning, programming, and even the small architectural decisions. I became the user, tester, PO and solution architect but not anymore the implementer.

What the Metrics Show

Over the past 12 months, I personally used more then 15 LLMs and agents using real-world development tasks. Here’s the short version:

  • LLMs can boost development speed by up to 5x
  • AI agents accelerated full-stack development up to 20x

The numbers back the vision: we are approaching the 80/20 point, where 80% of programming becomes obsolete.

Why Does Software Still Cost So Much?

If you’re a CTO or CEO, you might be asking:

“We’ve bought AI tools. We’ve read the hype. So why are our development costs still not falling?”

Here’s what many leaders still see inside their companies:

  • Teams struggling with legacy codebases they can’t safely modify or release
  • Expensive AI tools in place but no measurable gains in delivery speed
  • Developers spending more time in prompt engineering than actual outcomes
  • Pilot projects that work in isolation but don’t scale or integrate

In short: AI has entered the building but it hasn’t entered the system. The gains are real but only if your architecture, documentation, and leadership are ready.

Why Companies Must Act Now

Most teams aren’t blocked by technology. They’re blocked by the lack of strategic readiness.

  • Organizational confusion – missing or misaligned AI policies, no architecture strategy
  • Cultural resistance – developers who enjoy coding and mistrust delegation
  • Structural & legal blockers – undocumented APIs, cloud security limits, compliance ambiguity

If you wait for your team to organically adapt, you’ll only notice the shift once your competitors pull ahead.

Standing still isn’t safe, it’s falling behind.

What You Can Do Today

At QuantalQ, we help companies transition from talk to action:

  • Create AI-ready architecture and documentation
  • Define what to protect vs. expose to AI Agents
  • Build well documented interface descriptions even for legacy systems

We support leaders who don’t just want to experiment but want to transform.
